The Earth has enough problems already: Avoid Crackers

shOObh Diwali-2015
The Earth has enough problems already: Avoid Crackers
Submitted by: Daksh Mehta, Delhi Public School, Noida
Diwali , the
festival of lights ,a festival that truly reflects our Indian ethos ,our rich
culture ,a festival that transcends the shackles of caste, race , language, religion is celebrated not only by Hindus but also by
Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists, not only
in north India but also in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu . Not only by Indians but
by the whole world .
There are
many stories associated with the festival , One of them being the return of
Lord Ram , his brother Laxman and wife Sita
to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile .
On the arrival of Lord Ram along with his
wife Sita and brother Laxman, people of Ayodhya decorated their homes as well
as the city of Ayodhya by lighting tiny diyas all over, in order to welcome
their beloved prince Shri Ram and Devi Sita and Laxman. And this tradition has
been followed ever since, but the “modernization” and technology has played a
major role in stuffing our body with harmful chemicals like calcium , magnesium,
sisa , nitride , nitrite and chlorine. One can easily understand the
devastation these crackers are causing by looking into the history: chlorine
gas being a poisonous gas was used in world war by the Germans against the
French. Some of the survivors reported that the gas left them with pain in
their chest and burning sensation in the neck .
The Dalai Lama , when asked about what
surprised him the most about humanity, answered “man”. Because he sacrifices
his health to make money, then he sacrifices money to recuperates his health.
He cuts down trees to print paper to write “save tree” on it.
Imagine Lord Ram time travelling to 2015 to
see the celebrations done on Diwali. It
would be no astonishment that he would like to set the time dial on the time
machine back to his period and go back because the “modern” human has
indiscriminately used up most of Mother Earth’s resources and deteriorated the
environment to such an extent that it needs air and water purifiers at home. Diwali,
called the festival of lights which was once celebrated by lighting diyas in
the verandah has now been reduced to noise and smoke by the indulgence of fire
crackers on such a pious occasion.
Firecrackers! Just the term creates joy
and excitement in one’s mind. The heart flutters with thrill and enthusiasm
developed by the sight of colorful showers and sparkles from the fireworks in
the sky.
But this is just one side of the coin. On the contrary to the joy of bursting
crackers, one must also look at the harmful effects of it. Fire crackers cause every damage to the
environment of which one can think of, be it air pollution , causing fires ,or
harming wildlife.
·
Recent studies show
that fire crackers contain percolate particles which mix with water and contaminate
it which makes it unfit for consumption.·Fire crackers cause
non pollution which startles the animals and damages our eardrums. The image that comes
to anybody’s mind on hearing the word firecrackers is usually “fire.” Burning
firecrackers without proper care and precaution could lead to lot of fire
accidents, burns and injuries. Sometimes the rockets may not be launched properly
and could end up in a house. People might even step on a firework by mistake
and face horrible injuries later. Many fire accidents and deaths have been
noted due to such careless handling of fireworks during Diwali.
·
Most of the shells
of the crackers are made out of plastic that is non-biodegradable which further
pollutes the environment.
·
The fireworks are
made in poor conditions by children .By using the money that we spend on
crackers we can spend it on the
education of these children, we can give them a chance to break free and
explore the world.
The effluents
released by these crackers into the air lead to smog covered city. This smog is
hugely responsible for the increase in car accidents as well as in heart
diseases and cancers. The air in India gets so polluted after Diwali that it
can be seen from space!
We didn’t inherit
the world from our ancestors, we borrowed it from our successors.
Explain it to the
future generation that it was good for the economy when they wouldn’t be able
to cultivate the land, wouldn’t be able to breathe the air and wouldn’t be able
to drink the water.
I wish more people cared about Earth as
much as they cared about who they believe created it…. Save our Planet Earth

Group – Daughters launched on 07-08-2008:
Are daughters a blessing from God? Are they a symbol of goddess Laxmi (&, therefore, prosperity) or unwanted baggage that means a life-long obligation? We’re all familiar with the predicament of daughters in rural India. But what’s their story in the modernized, western shores where numerous Indians have settled? Do they carry with them age-old prejudices? Or does the girl child have it better there?
This is a group dedicated to those parents having daughters. This is a forum of parents, daughters & public in general where they can share views online & offline.
